Yeah...take them for a ride. I don't think that is such a good idea for a new rider to even consider. A newbie is going to have enough trouble keeping the bike under control without mom or dad on the back and the ride is sure to scare the hell out of them and make them even more against the idea of the bike than in the first place. C'mon people, think before offering foolish advice.
